The Baltic Sea waters around the Sopot pier are ideal for organizing a match race. Two years after its 10th anniversary, the Energa Sopot Match Race joined the elite World Match Racing Tour. In the same year it became a World Championship Event. This year it is one of seven qualification races of the 2015 ISAF Match Racing World Championship. This has attracted the best professional sailing teams in the world, encouraging them to come to Poland again.
 
The Championship Race is not only sports competition, but also promotion of sailing on an international scale. Including the Sopot regatta in the prestigious World Match Racing Tour was a natural next step in the event’s development, strengthening its position in the Polish and world calendars of sailing events with tradition.
