Choco Chanel - The first fashion star

1. The Queen of fragrance
Chanel No. 5 was created in 1921. The fragrance was selected from the fifth sample produced and released for sale on May 5th. Apparently, five was Coco’s favorite lucky number.

2. Coco?
Her real name was Gabrielle, and Coco is perhaps a reminiscence of “Ko Ko Ri Ko” and "Qui qu’a vu Coco” songs she sang in cabarets before becoming a designer.

3. Little black dress
In 1926, she showed a dress in the American Vogue, which became an indispensable element in every woman’s wardrobe. She broke the spell of the black associated with mourning, and since then it has become a synonym for timeless elegance.

4. Away with the ruffles
Her main inspiration was men’s sportswear. She wanted women’s fashion to be comfortable and she often wore trousers herself. She promoted clothes of simple cuts, introduced jersey to fashion and focused on practicality, which was related to the growing professional activity of women

5. The first fashion star
She radically changed the way people thought about women’s fashion of the 1920s. Without her, perhaps we would
still be wearing corsets. About her work, the fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar said in 1915, “The woman who hasn’t at least one Chanel is hopelessly out of fashion. This season the name of Chanel is on the lips of every buyer.”
