We are going green! Our eco success stories

Environmental responsibility is our passion! In 2016, the Dr Irena Eris brand joined Global Compact, an initiative established by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Our business strategy, culture and daily activities are in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which include, but are not limited to, environmental issues.
We have been effectively reducing waste and applying the eco-design rules for packaging, by implementing the concept of circular economy.
Responsible production
We have been effectively reducing packaging waste. As of 2019, we are applying the eco-design rules for packaging, by implementing the concept of circular economy. Our packaging is designed to minimize the weight of plastic material. In addition, we are introducing innovative solutions such as refillable cream containers and Post-Consumer Recycled packaging, which has allowed us to reduce plastic consumption by 5 tons in 2021 and by more than 20 tons since the beginning of 2020.

Sustainable farming
We use cardboard made from material sourced from well-managed FSC-certified forests and recycled materials. This means that the raw material for paper production was sustainably sourced – a new tree was planted in place of each one that was cut down. Already more than 60 percent of Pharmaceris products in cardboard boxes are FSC-certified or made from recycled material.

Clean water
In 2022 we reduced the amount of water required to produce one unit of a product by more than 18 percent compared to 2021. We fully control the water balance of the factory. We collect rainwater and use it to water green spaces, and we monitor and improve the efficiency of process water treatment.
80% of our packaging material is recyclable and contains up to 30% post-production recycled plastic.
Energy savings
We are carefully monitoring energy consumption and successively reducing energy consumption. In 2022, we reduced the amount of energy required to produce 1 unit of a product by 17 percent compared to 2021. We have developed and are monitoring the energy balance of the production plant. We are successively replacing lighting in the factory and offices with energy-efficient lighting. In 2022, we also reduced gas consumption per unit of finished product by 27 percent compared to the previous year.

Minimal carbon footprint
As of 2019, Dr Irena Eris’ manufacturing plant uses renewable energy. In the same year, the company’s carbon footprint was reduced by 68 percent compared to the previous year, thanks to joining the ENERGY NATURALLY program and purchasing electricity from renewable sources. In 2021, 100 percent of the total energy consumed by the company was generated by wind power installations.

Recycling system
All post-production waste is transferred to specialized companies. Selected formats of shipping cardboard boxes are classified as returnable and handed over to our suppliers for reuse. We reuse cartons intended for storage of products included in sets. Thanks to these measures, in 2022 we reduced the amount of paper and cardboard waste per item by 14 percent compared to 2021.

Circular economy
In 2020, we joined the RafCycle program, thanks to which we are part of a circular economy in which waste is transformed into key resources for the economy. We transfer the laminated liner that is label waste to a specialized company, where it is cleaned of silicone and recycled into pulp and paper, which is then used to make graphic paper and paper liners.
